Reflections from the Valley
One of the most memorable scriptures I remember learning when I was a kid in Sunday School was the 23rd Psalm. I remember learning it not only at church, but also as a student at Community Christian School in Richmond, Indiana. I distinctly remember walking to the front of the class in my lace and frills reciting the scripture in front of my peers and teacher. We recited scripture on a daily basis st School. It just became part of my natural learnings as a child.
Fast forward 20 plus years later and I still remember the scriptures I was taught as a child. However I will definitely say that they all have a much different meaning to me now that I am older.
There have been many times that different parts of this scripture in particular has lifted my heart and spirit. There have also been times when I have said “ugh, God the valley sucks!” Valley time/season is not my favorite place, believe me!!
My personal valleys have been spiritually and mentally depleting. However I can say from my valleys I experienced God like never before. I relied on God’s strength. I trusted God’s faithfulness. In my Valley experiences I was invited to allow my faith to overcome my fear.
The above bracelet that I designed and wear is a reminder to me when I feel low. I remember God’s faithfulness in the valley. Trusting that if God walked with me before, God will surely be present and get me through it again!
So for those of you who are in the valley, know that God is with you. Relish in the ways in which God speaks to you anew. Reflect on the learnings from the valley. Reach out to God. Let God guide you.
Blessings Beautiful Ones,
I leave you with the Message Paraphrase version of Psalm 23
Psalm 23The Message (MSG)
A David Psalm
23 1-3 God, my shepherd! I don’t need a thing. You have bedded me down in lush meadows, you find me quiet pools to drink from. True to your word, you let me catch my breath and send me in the right direction. 4 Even when the way goes through Death Valley, I’m not afraid when you walk at my side. Your trusty shepherd’s crook makes me feel secure. 5 You serve me a six-course dinner right in front of my enemies. You revive my drooping head; my cup brims with blessing. 6 Your beauty and love chase after me every day of my life. I’m back home in the house of God for the rest of my life.
